This artwork is by Vincent Willem van Gogh, Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential artists in the history of Western art. Van Gogh experienced numerous psychotic episodes delusions & hallucinations. Although he was worried about his mental stability, he often neglected proper nutrition and was a heavy drinker.

Van Gogh,once in rage, severed part of his own left ear using a razor. He spent a lot of time in psychiatric hospitals, including that of Saint-Rémy. Van Gogh, at 37, committed suicide after years of mental illness and poverty by shooting himself in the chest with a revolver.
